For the past several weeks, Mom has been doing a lot of work on her family history through the Church's familysearch.org site. She hasn't been doing any of the research to further the lines back, but has been working on her down-lines: looking at siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. It's been fun to see how excited she gets whenever she finds someone who hasn't had their temple work done and adds them to her pile of names. Last weekend I finally got on and started doing some investigative work myself. I decided to focus on the McLaws line. I wasn't sure I was going to find anyone, but I did!
These are all people I found, that I'm related to in one way or another, that need to have temple work done! I get so excited now, every time I find someone new. I've definitely gotten bit by the genealogy bug. It's so addicting! It's like a treasure hunt.
I followed one line all the way back to the 100s AD! Say what?! (Now, who's to say it's really accurate...I don't know who did all that work and no temple work has been done, obviously, because you can't really verify information that far back). A couple of my lines have ties back to royalty. Including this guy:
Yep. That's right. You may now start calling me, Your Highness. :)
I've made it my goal and mission to work on my McLaws line. Because here's the problem:
The line stops at Grandpa George. And has been stalled there for a LONG time. No one knows who his parents were because no one know what his name was. Why? You ask. Because, bless them, the Scots didn't know how to spell and this is the list of all the known possible spellings of my last name:
McLehose McGilhosche McGilchois McElhouse
McElhose Mcllhois McGillhois Mucklehouse
McEhoes Macklehois Mclllhos McLaws
McElhoe Maclehose McLlchois McLause
McHose Mackilhoise Mcllhouse McLaus
Mcllhose Mcllhoise Micklehose Mcclause
Makgilhewous Mcllhaos Mclllhose MacLaws
Makgihois Mcllhoise Mckillhose Maclehose
McClause Mclose Micklose
Even: MacThomas, and MacLeay have been attributed to this line.
Oiy!
Dear Grandpa George: HELP US FIND YOU!
Looks like I may need to take a trip to Scotland. Who wants to go with me??

That's a lot of names! I thought I had it bad with the Swedes and their crazy way of passing on names...
And I'll go with you to Scotland. Maybe we should go there instead of Paris?
