I have come to the conclusion that October just may be my favorite month. Here are some of the reasons why:

O--Outside. The weather is finally cooling off here in Arizona and it's safe now to vernture outside and remember why it is we put up with the 100+ degrees during the summer.

C--Conference. Hard to believe it's been six months already, but I'm looking forward to watching/listening to General Conference this coming weekend. It's such a blessing to have a modern day prophet that can give us direct counsel from God!

T--Television. All of my favorite shows (and a lot of new ones this season!) are back on with new episodes. Hoarders, Glee, Bones, Vampire Diaries, Drop Dead Diva, Jonas, Cougar Town...just to name a few...

O--One more month until New Moon comes out! When did Jacob become so hot?!

B--Backstreet Boys. Not only is one of my favorite boybands releasing their seventh album this month ("This Is Us" available October 6th...you should buy it...) but they are also coming to Phoenix on the 23rd and, you guessed it, I have tickets! Second row tickets, that is. That's right. I know you're jealous.

E--Elastic waisted pants. Okay, I know this one was a stretch (ha! no pun intended!) but I couldn't really come up with anything that stated with "E". October does generally start the whole holiday eating season though and we all know what that means...bring on the sweatpants!

R--Release of new music. Along with the aforementioned BSB album being released, Michael Buble is also releasing a new album this month that I am excited about and have a spot waiting in my CD case for.

One of the things I like about my job is being able to listen to all of my students random ringback tones and voicemail messages when I'm calling and trying to get ahold of them. It's funny to find out what music people pick. For instance, I had one student named Justin (a guy, obviously) whose ringback tone was "Single Ladies." Cracked me up everytime I had to call him!

All of my students live in Houston, TX and the surrounding areas, and the majority of them end their messages with, "Have a blessed day." I don't know if this is a Texas thing, or a Southern thing, but I like getting blessed so often during the day! Then I have the handful of students who like to leave inspirational messages on their voicemail recordings. This was the one I heard today that really stuck with me: "Faith is not believing God can. Faith is knowing God will."

One of the Finance Counselors that is on my team at work got a call today from one of her students. What was the student's issue, you ask? She wanted to make sure that the check she was receiving from the University hadn't been sent to someone else and cashed. What would make her suspicious of this happening, you ask? Apparantly her next door neighbor just bought a new boat and the student was worried about where they got the money to do that.

Seriously?

The Academic Counselor that I work with every day told me today that the reason she hasn't been feeling very good the last week has been because, "My dream told me it was a virus." (Her dream last week told her that she should buy the black cat at the pet store--which she did--and that her lost ID badge was in her purse--which it was not).

After about a year of saying, "I need to get a new laptop," today I actually put my money where my mouth is. Literally. Since I went back to school in March I took out a student loan and I used some of the money today to buy a new DELL laptop. I'm in love with it. It's amazing!

My old laptop served me well, and we had a lot of good times together, but there comes a point in every relationship when you have to stop and ask yourself if you want to continue to be with someone who is slowing you down and can't keep up with all of the things you want and need to do, or if it's time to break it off and find someone that's more your speed. It was a hard decision to make, but I feel it was for the best.
