uuuuhhhhh......

This is me today. I feel like my brain is in a fog, I'm congested, and just want to sleep. I can't decide if it's allergies or a cold. Either way, I don't like it.

the lorax

I don't know why, but The Lorax has always been my favorite Dr. Suess book Ever since I was younger.

So, when I found out last year that there was a movie being made about the book I got really excited! Last night I went to see it with my sisters and I was pleasantly surprised.

Obviously, they had to add a lot to the story in order to make it movie-length, but the stuff they added was great. I loved the songs. I loved the animation. I loved the voices. I love that they kept the message of the book intact. Bottom line: I recommend it! :)

today i....

...woke up thinking it was Wednesday (when I become President of the United States I'm outlawing Tuesdays. I don't like them.)

...almost sprayed perfume in my hair this morning thinking it was hairspray (but boy did my hair smell good!)

...met my new Visiting Teacher over IM at work today (turns out she's an Enrollment Advisor. Small world!)

...ate a sleeve of Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies (or chocolate covered crack wafers, as I like to call them.)

Last week I received the dreaded rejection letter from ASU.

"Dear Ms. McLaws:

Your application for admission to Arizona State University to study in the Counseling (MC) program has been carefully reviewed by your department. Based on their recommendation, I regret to inform you that we cannot act favorably on your application."

I had put making any decisions about what I was going to do in the fall off until I knew one way or another about this program. Now I know, so it's time to make some decisions. Kristy is looking into the possibility of getting a teaching job in Alaska next year. I thought, "Hey. I wonder if the University of Alaska has a school counseling program." I looked, and they do! So I started forming this crazy idea of applying and moving up to Anchorage with Kristy in the Fall. Kristy called me the other day to ask me if she was having a mid-life crisis by moving to Alaska. I assured her she wasn't, but now I needed that same reassurance.

So I went to talk to my mom.

We spent three hours last night talking about life, school, church, my house and living situation. We decided that I'm on the right track in applying for a counseling program, but I need one more year to get some other things in place in my life. There are some things I need to work on, personally and spiritually, before I'm ready to move on to the next stage in my life. I'm going to start advertising for a new roommate, and also look into the possibility of either selling or renting my house out in order to save some money. I've made some goals on things I need to work on and get better at which are going to take me the next year to complete.

So, for now, I'm NOT moving to Alaska.

stuck in an elevator

Leaving work today, I got onto the elevator alone. I watched the doors close, adjusted my purse on my shoulder and thought to myself, "This elevator is really quite and so smooth. It doesn't even feel like it's moving!"

Then the doors opened and I realized it HADN'T been moving.

I had failed to push the button telling it that I wanted to go to the ground floor so I could go home. I was a little put off that it couldn't read my mind and that it didn't automatically know where I wanted it to go. How dare it!

I wonder how long I would have stood there in that little box if someone else hadn't wanted to go home as well and got on with me....
