i'm just a girl
May 23, 2009: No Doubt concert at Cricket Wireless Pavilion. By far one of the best concerts I've been too! Granted the only other concerts I have been to have been The Jonas Brothers and Michael Buble, but STILL...one of the best! :) The band sounded great, Gwen was amazing, and the best part was that it was Elaina's first concert! She is no longer a concert virgin!!

the town too tough to die!
Yesterday my roommate Elaina and I decided to head south and visit Tombstone, AZ. I had been there once before a few years ago but wanted to go back. We had the day free and decided, why not? It turned out to be more adventurous than we anticipated!
What we saw:
*An orange submarine. No joke! There was a flatbed truck carrying an orange submarine down the highway.
*The Donut Depot. Who knew Huachuca City (I think that was the town it was in...) had a Donut Depot? We were going to stop, but the sign in the window said they were sold out. Elaina's response? "So make more!"
*Children undressing themselves at Texas Roadhouse! We stopped for lunch and as we were leaving the girl in the booth next to us was out in the aisleway taking off her skirt and then putting it back on. Her dad's response? "You don't do that here!" Needless to say we had a good laugh about that one.
*A tiny bit of water in the San Pedro river.
*A mountain on fire.
*A montrous dog on a leash with a ginormous head. Breed: unkown.
*"A really, really old skull"

*A bunny on the side of the road.
*A herd of llamas.
*A guy carrying a rather large, plastic blow up Spider Man doll.
Elaina also decided to speak in tongues on this trip. Here are my favorite lines she came up with...
"Now we're going to go down aways, a little bit, you know--over to there." Translation: we're going to drvie through the mall parking lot from Texas Roadhouse to the theatre to see what time the movie is playing.
"I don't want to cop a pass with this." Translation: It probably wouldn't look too good to pass a cop drinking out of this bottle (don't worry, it was a bottle of Sassparilla).
Good times were had by all!

cake in a jar
Step one: you put your cake in a jar.
Step two: you put a lid on the jar.
Step three: you save your cake in a jar...
So, two years ago my grandma decided (no joke) to can cake. At one of our monthly family nights she gave each of us one of these canned cakes and swore they were good to keep in your pantry for five years. I opened the jar tonight.
It was not good.
I still have the rancid taste in my mouth.
I need some water.

what about bob?
I have been reminded by several people in the last week that I have been neglecting this blog and needed to update. For those of you who have been checking regularly, I apologize. I could say that life has been busy but that would just be an excuse. The real reason I haven't updated is because, A) I'm lazy and, B) nothing really exciting has happened the last few months. However, all of that is going to change. I hope. About three weeks ago I had a dream...no wait. Maybe I should back up a little.
Since graduating April 2005 with my Bachelor's degree in English and History I have been on a quest of sorts, trying to figure out what I want to be "when I grow up." My passion is writing. I always have a notebook in my purse that I am constantly writing in. I finished a 450 pages novel last November that I am in the process of editing so that I can hopefully send it to a publisher by the end of this year and currently have two more novels I am working on. But, although I would love to be able to buy a house on the beach in San Diego and spend my days writing, I have to be realistic. Writing typically does not equal a viable way to support oneself unless you happen to be Stephenie Meyers or J.K. Rowling.
My mom has been pushing (lovingly) me since I graduated to go back and get a higher degree. She has often given me the Gordon B. Hinkley quote of, "Get all the education you can," and I have been feeling the need to go back to school. The only problem? What to get my degree in.
I know that education is important and, since it doesn't look like I will be getting married any time in the near future, it is important for me to be able to support myself and one day not have to live with any roommates. I have been weighing the options, spending a lot of time praying, fasting and going to the temple. Right now would be the perfect opportunity for me to get my Master's degree because I am working for the University of Phoenix and can get it basically for free!
About three weeks ago I had a dream. I dreamt that I had decided to go back to school and get my degree in Psychology and eventually become a Psychologist. When I woke up it was like a light switch had been turned on. Everything suddenly made sense. This is what I'm supposed to do! And Psychology is one of the degrees offered on-line at the University of Phoenix (a HUGE blessing because something else that has been holding me back from getting my Master's was the fact that I would only be able to work part-time and right now I can't afford to do that).
So I started the ball rolling. I applied for the Tuition Waiver at work and got it approved. I have talked to an Enrollment Counselor and have started filling out all the applications/paperwork necessary for me to start. Everything has just been falling into place and, although I'm nervous and a little bit scared about going back to school, I'm really excited! I will be staring my program on March 3rd. Right now UOP only has a Master's degree program in Psychology so I will have to go to a different school to get my PhD., but I'm choosing not to worry about that right now. This is what I'm supposed to be doing and I know the Lord will help me and show me the path to get where I'm supposed to be.
This has been a really testimony builder to me about prayer. The Lord DOES answer our prayers. It's not always exactly when we WANT the answer, but it's always when we NEED it. We just have to be patient, and continue to do what He asks us and trust in faith that the answer will come. Eventaully everything works out!
So...look me up in a few years. You can come sit on my couch and we'll talk.

highs and lows
Highs:
* "Twilight" the movie didn't suck! (And can you say hottest kiss of my life?!)
* Getting 16th row tickets to the Backstreet Boys concert here in Phoenix! (Boom, baby!)
* Buying David Archuleta's debut CD! (Tracks 1, 2, 10, and 12 are already my favorites but the whole thing is really good!)
Lows:
* Gas! ($1.97 and still falling!)
* Getting a call last night at 6pm from Ticketmaster telling me the Backstreet Boys concert was cancelled due to Nick being sick! (I almost cried.)
* Finding a pair of pants last weekend at Kohl's on clearance for $3.60 (Can't beat that!)
